ARMY PUBLIC SCHOOL BARRACKPORE ACCOMPLISHES INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL AWARD CONFERRED BY BRITISH COUNCIL – IN RETROSPECT

FROM THE DESK OF THE ISA CO-ORDINATORS – MRS SANGEETA BASU ROY (VICE PRINCIPAL) & MR SHAUNAK BHATTACHARYA (COMPUTER INSTRUCTOR)

21st century Education aims at creating global citizens who will be successfully contributing to the quantum leap of human civilization. The movement towards international education is urgent in today’s society that is more and more inter connected by technology and globalization. The concept of knowledge frame work is going through a paradigm shift.

It is immensely gratifying that the patronage of British Council enabled Army Public School Barrackpore translate the curriculum to infuse an international mind set in the school community at large. Sounds easy but the journey had its challenges. The mentors of the school initially brainstormed on the projects that would be executed in the process. The following projects were decided on:

After the initial submission of the Action Plans and receiving the Action Plans amended and approved by the able assessors of British Council, the teachers and the students hit the ground and innovative ideas started taking shape. Each concept was judged from an international perspective which led to a wider knowledge of the world and greater understanding of varied ethos, diversities, global citizenship which empowered the young minds with empathy and fraternity.

The chief hurdle was finding schools to collaborate with schools abroad and ensuring topics in the curriculum e.g. global warming, importance of greenery, food and nutrition, population explosion et al. However, as the saying goes ‘If there is will, there is way’, we found enthusiastic partners in schools from USA, UK and France. On –line courses were also duly completed by the ISA Co-ordinator as per the criteria set by British Council.

The pursuit of ISA for the period 2017 to 2020 that was, conceptualised in the month of May’2016 finally took shape in the dossier that held mirror to the  involvement of the entire school community, the virtuosity and dynamism of the learners, the varied activities, inter-school vis-à-vis intra-school competitions, visits, exhibition cum food festival, special assemblies etc that were conducted.

ISA would have remained a far cry without the proactive support of Madam Mrs Moitreyee Mukherjee whose relentless efforts and constant guidance boosted our morale and inspired us to approximate our target – the much coveted ISA. The journey, however, continues with further aspirations to collaborate with schools from heterogeneous backgrounds in the country and abroad and partake in exchange programmes to actualise the framework of 21st Century learning skills that coincide with the aims of internationalism.
